Accounting revision route and checklist

You have a pile of Accounting topics and no sense of which to revise first.

This route puts the Accounting topics in the order they depend on each other. Revise a topic only after the one before it feels secure, because a weak foundation makes later topics look harder than they are.

It supports the SPM Accounting guide. Confirm the current syllabus and assessment details on the Lembaga Peperiksaan website and with your teacher.

How do I test a topic?

Use three questions for every topic. Answer them on paper without notes.

  1. Can I do one fresh question from the topic with no help?
  2. Can I explain why each entry or step is needed?
  3. Can I find the error when someone else’s answer is wrong?

Answer yes to all three and tick the topic. A single no moves it to your repair list.

The revision route

Work through these in order. The link beside each topic goes to its study guide.

Stage 1: foundations

Stage 2: year-end statements

Stage 3: other forms of business

Stage 4: further topics

Then cover the topics your school has reached, such as incomplete records, clubs and societies, cost and management accounting, controls and ratio analysis. Each has a guide under the SPM Accounting guide.

How do I turn the route into a plan?

Count your weeks to the exam and the hours you can give each week. Then list the topics that are on your repair list, and give those the earliest slots.

Step What to do
1 Test every topic with the three questions
2 Put failed topics on the repair list
3 Revise the repair list first, in route order
4 Retest each repaired topic after a few days
5 Keep a record of what you pass, with the date

The realistic revision planner builds the weekly slots, the spaced recall planner spaces the retests, and the skill evidence tracker records what you can do.

What if the same topic keeps failing?

A topic that fails twice may have a smaller gap underneath it. For example, mistakes in company accounts can start with a debit and credit slip from stage 1.

If you want a teacher to find that gap with you, see online one-to-one Accounting tuition.

Common questions

How should I use this checklist?

Print it or copy it into a notebook. Attempt the three questions for each topic without notes. A topic where you answer all three passes. A topic where you miss one goes on your repair list and is revised first.

Do I revise every topic in order?

Follow the order for topics you are unsure about, because later topics depend on earlier ones. Skip a topic only after you have passed its three questions, and return to it once near the exam.

How long should each revision session be?

Short sessions that end with a written question work better than long rereading. Pick a length you can repeat in a normal school week, then keep to it.

Does this checklist match my exam topics exactly?

It follows the topics on this site. Confirm the current syllabus and assessment details on the Lembaga Peperiksaan website and with your teacher, and delete any topic your year does not assess.

If the checklist shows a topic you cannot do even after rereading the lesson, one-to-one Accounting lessons let a teacher start from the exact step where your working breaks.

  • Online one-to-one lessons for your child with an experienced teacher.
  • Your first class is a one-hour trial, from RM50. The fee is agreed before you book.
  • Happy with the teacher? Continue with lessons of about 1.5 hours. If not, ask for another teacher.
