These seven tasks are original. Each has a script for a helper to read aloud, then questions for you to answer from what you hear.

Tasks 1 to 4: one skill each
Task 1. Say what type of answer each question needs.
Siapa yang menang? Berapa mata yang diperoleh? Mengapa pasukan B kalah?
Answer
Siapa needs a person or a team. Berapa needs a number. Mengapa needs a reason, usually introduced by “kerana”. Naming the answer type before listening is the skill tested.
Task 2. Script: Tiket kanak-kanak ialah lima belas ringgit dan tiket dewasa ialah lima puluh ringgit. What is the adult price?
Answer
Puluh marks the tens, so lima puluh is 50. The adult price is RM50. RM15 is the children’s price.
Task 3. Script: Filem bermula pada pukul setengah tujuh petang. What time does it start?
Answer
Setengah tujuh is half way to seven, which is 6.30. The film starts at 6.30 p.m.
Task 4. Script: Kem diadakan di Melaka selama empat hari. Bawa tikar, torch dan buku nota. Bas bertolak pukul enam pagi.
Write keyword notes, then say how long the camp lasts.
Answer
Notes: Kem: Melaka / 4 hari / Bawa: tikar, torch, buku nota / Bas: 6 pg.
The camp lasts empat hari (4 days).
Tasks 5 to 7: self-correction and final checks
Task 5. Script: Mesyuarat diadakan pada hari Selasa, eh, maaf, hari Rabu. On which day is the meeting?
Answer
“Eh, maaf” signals a correction, so the first day is replaced. The meeting is on Rabu.
Task 6. Script: Kursus fotografi bermula pada dua puluh Julai di dewan sekolah. Yuran ialah tiga puluh lima ringgit.
Answer with the date, the place and the fee.
Answer
Date: 20 Julai. Place: dewan sekolah. Fee: RM35.
“Dua puluh” is 20, not 12, and the fee needs its unit.
Task 7. Script: Pasukan debat kalah kerana ketua pasukan jatuh sakit.
Question: Mengapa pasukan debat kalah? A student wrote “Pasukan debat kalah”.
Improve the answer.
Answer
The student repeated the question and gave no reason. A better answer is Kerana ketua pasukan jatuh sakit.
