Bible Knowledge questions reward answers that stay with the text. This guide trains four skills: orienting yourself in a passage, reading it closely, understanding narrative and teaching, and building a short answer.
It belongs to the wider SPM subjects and learning resources area. The practice passages are original texts written to teach the skills, not prescribed texts, so your school and the current syllabus still decide what you study.
How do the four areas connect?
Each area builds on the one before it. You cannot support an explanation with evidence if you do not yet know which passage the question means.
| Order | Area | What you practise |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prescribed text orientation | Knowing people, places and sequence |
| 2 | Close reading and evidence | Finding the exact detail a question needs |
| 3 | Narrative and teaching | Speaker, audience, purpose and comparison |
| 4 | Answer construction and recall | Planning and writing concise responses |
A short orienting example
Here is an original line: “At dusk the ferry-keeper lit the lamp, though no boat had crossed for a week.”
Two different questions can be asked of it. “When did he light it?” needs the word dusk. “Why might he keep lighting it?” needs an explanation supported by “no boat had crossed”, such as hope that a boat will come.
The same sentence, two question types, two kinds of answer. Reading the question word first is the habit that runs through all four areas.
Who should start where?
- Recall feels weak: begin with orientation, then return to answer construction.
- You write long answers that do not score: begin with close reading and evidence, then answer construction.
- You understand the story but mix up who is speaking: begin with narrative and teaching.
- You are close to ready: go straight to the practice sets at the end of each area.
Each area has its own practice page with explained answers, so you can check yourself without waiting for feedback.
What stays with the school
The passages you are assessed on, and the way your school assesses them, are set by your school and the current curriculum. The lessons here help with reading, evidence and writing. They do not add or replace texts. Check your school’s current passage list.
If you want a teacher to work through your own passages and answers, see online one-to-one Bible Knowledge tuition. It starts with a one-hour trial class (from RM50), and the fee is agreed before the trial.
