SPM Physics revision route and checklist

You have a syllabus full of formulas and no clear order in which to revise them.

A useful revision route tests skills, not pages read. This page gives a four-step route and a checklist of one skill question per topic for SPM Physics.

Confirm the current syllabus and paper format with Lembaga Peperiksaan (lp.moe.gov.my) and BPK (bpk.moe.gov.my), because your school may order the topics differently.

What is a four-step revision route?

  1. Find the gaps. Try one original practice set per topic, closed-book, and mark the topics where you lose marks.
  2. Repair one skill at a time. Read the matching lesson, redo the failed question, then try a fresh one.
  3. Mix topics. Once single topics are steady, use mixed questions so that you practise choosing the method.
  4. Test under time. Finish with timed sets and keep a list of the slips that repeat.

The realistic revision planner spreads these steps across the weeks you have. The spaced recall planner schedules when to revisit each topic.

What is the topic checklist?

For each row, try the skill question without notes. If you get it wrong, open the linked topic.

Topic Skill to test Go to
Measurement Convert 4.5 cm² to m² and state the unit Measurement
Force and motion Choose the right equation of motion from the quantities given Force and motion
Gravitation Keep units consistent in an orbital calculation Gravitation
Heat Decide whether Q = mcθ or Q = ml applies Heat
Waves Read wavelength and period from the right graph axis Waves
Light and optics Draw a ray diagram and state the image features Light and optics
Pressure Choose between P = F/A, ρgh and buoyancy Pressure
Electricity Solve a mixed series and parallel circuit Electricity
Electromagnetism State force direction using a hand rule Electromagnetism
Electronics Explain what a diode does in a circuit Electronics
Nuclear physics Balance an equation and read a half-life Nuclear physics
Quantum physics Compare photon energy hf with the work function Photoelectric effect

How do I keep track of my revision?

Mark each row as steady, shaky or failed, and write the date. The skill evidence tracker keeps this list on your own device.

A skill counts as steady after you pass a fresh question on it on two different days. Re-test shaky rows first in the next week.

An original one-week example

A student with three weeks before a school test chooses two topics each week. In week one, she tries the Waves and Pressure practice sets, closed-book.

She loses marks on the wave graph and on a floating-block question. She reads interpreting wave graphs without confusing axes and applying Archimedes’ principle.

She retries both question types two days later and notes one slip that repeats: she skips the axis label. She writes the label check on her formula card.

When could one-to-one help?

Self-study works well when the gaps are in single topics and the lessons fix them. A teacher may help when the same slip appears across topics, for example choosing formulas, or when you cannot tell which topic to repair first.

Common questions

Where should I start revising SPM Physics?

Start with the topics your last school test went worst on, and test each with the skill checks below. Begin with Measurement and Force and Motion, because units, graphs and equations from those chapters appear in almost every other topic.

How many topics should I revise in a week?

Choose a number you can finish, such as two topics with two practice sets each. The realistic revision planner helps you fit this around school. Finishing a small plan teaches you more than abandoning a large one.

Should I memorise formulas or practise questions?

Do both, but let questions decide what to memorise. After each practice set, write the formulas you had to look up on a card. Then practise choosing formulas by asking what the quantities in the question are.

If the checklist shows the same skill failing in several topics, such as choosing formulas or reading graphs, one-to-one Physics lessons let a teacher work on that shared skill directly.

  • Online one-to-one lessons for your child with an experienced teacher.
  • Your first class is a one-hour trial, from RM50. The fee is agreed before you book.
  • Happy with the teacher? Continue with lessons of about 1.5 hours. If not, ask for another teacher.
