Like-for-like progress view

Your practice marks jump around, and you cannot tell whether you are improving.

This tool turns your practice scores into percentages and shows a change only when two attempts were set up the same way. It helps students whose marks go up and down, and parents who want a fair picture of progress.

Everything you enter stays on this device.

How do I use it?

  1. Type a name or date for your first attempt, the marks you got and the total marks available.
  2. Write the topic or paper, and say whether the attempt was timed and whether you used notes.
  3. Add later attempts in date order. Leave unused rows empty.
  4. Press the button to see the table, the bar chart and the questions to discuss.

How does it work?

Each percentage is marks got divided by the total, times 100, rounded to one decimal place. Each attempt is then checked against the one before it.

If the topic, the timing or the allowed help differs, the tool shows both scores but marks the gap as not compared. If the attempts match, it shows the change in percentage points. A total below 10 marks, or totals that differ between compared attempts, brings a gentle warning.

The tool refuses to calculate when a total is missing or zero, because dividing by zero has no meaning. It also rejects marks above the total or below zero.

What does a worked example look like?

This is a worked example. Attempt 1 is 8 out of 10 on Quadratic Equations, timed, no notes. Attempt 2 is 16 out of 20 on Quadratic Equations, timed, no notes.

Both come to 80%, so the change is 0 percentage points. The tool adds a note that the totals differ. Now suppose attempt 3 is 9 out of 10 on Simultaneous Equations. The tool shows 90% but says it was not compared, because the topic changed.

What can this tool not tell me?

It cannot predict a grade, an admission result or how you will do in the real SPM. It cannot tell you why a score changed, and it cannot show that tuition caused a change. Your school’s marking can also differ from the marks you enter.

How does it connect to the rest of the site?

Read why practice marks vary from paper to paper to understand the swings. The guide on checking progress without obsessing over every mark shows a calmer routine. Parents can use discussing progress during ongoing tuition to plan the conversation, and understanding results without inventing grade boundaries explains why percentages are not grades.

If one topic stays low, the one-hour trial class (from RM50) is a way to work on it with a teacher.

Common questions

Why does 8/10 equal 16/20 here?

Both are 80%. The tool divides marks got by the total and multiplies by 100, so two scores with different totals can be compared on one scale. A bigger total simply gives a steadier picture.

Why did the tool refuse to show a change between two attempts?

The two attempts differed in topic, timing or allowed help. A change between them could come from the test itself, so the tool shows both scores but does not call the gap progress.

Does this predict my SPM grade?

No. Practice percentages depend on the paper you chose and the conditions you used. The tool predicts no grade and cannot show what caused a change.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The numbers stay in this browser page and disappear when you close it or press reset. Nothing is sent to a server.

If the like-for-like view shows a topic that stays stuck, a one-to-one teacher can work through those exact questions with the student. Start with the one-hour trial class (from RM50) and bring this table along.

  • Online one-to-one lessons for your child with an experienced teacher.
  • Your first class is a one-hour trial, from RM50. The fee is agreed before you book.
  • Happy with the teacher? Continue with lessons of about 1.5 hours. If not, ask for another teacher.
