Who Iban tuition helps most

Students usually describe one of three situations.

  • Spoken ease, written uncertainty. The student is fluent at home but unsure of spelling, sentence shape or the formal register an exam expects.
  • Answers that do not use the text. The student answers from general knowledge instead of pointing to a line in the passage.
  • Limited feedback. At home and at school there may be nobody with time to read and respond to a student’s writing.

A one-to-one teacher reads the writing line by line and explains each correction instead of only marking it.

What a lesson looks like: revising a short response

The lesson works by giving the student a checklist and making the student apply it, rather than the teacher rewriting the piece. Here is a worked example of the method. The student writes a short paragraph of four sentences on a family gathering. The teacher does not correct it at once.

Check Question the student asks
One idea Does each sentence make one point?
Order Would the reader follow the events in this sequence?
Detail Is there one specific detail, such as a name, place or food?
Register Is the tone right for an exam answer?
Read aloud Does each sentence sound finished when read out?

The student marks two sentences that fail a check, revises them and explains the change aloud. The teacher confirms or challenges the choice.

After a few rounds, the student uses the checklist alone. The free lesson on revising an original short response using a checklist sets out the method step by step.

What can be taught online, and what stays with school?

Reading comprehension, planning and revising written work, vocabulary and explaining grammar can all be handled in an online lesson. The lesson on supporting a reading answer with relevant evidence shows how.

The texts set, any oral or school-based assessment and the marking standards belong to the school and the examination authority. Tuition prepares the student and does not replace school assessment.

Enquire on WhatsApp first and tell us the form and what you need. We will tell you whether we can assign a suitable Iban teacher before you book the trial.

My child speaks Iban fluently. What would tuition add?

Speaking fluently and writing for an exam are different skills. A teacher helps the student plan, organise and revise written answers and support reading answers with evidence from the text.

How much is the Iban trial class?

The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50, charged at the same hourly rate as that teacher's normal classes. The rate depends on the teacher, and the fee is agreed before the trial. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours per class, and the schedule is agreed with the teacher.

Can lessons fit around school and other activities?

Lesson times for Iban are agreed between the parent and the teacher. Since lessons are online, the student joins from home at a time that suits both sides.

Which language do lessons use?

Lessons use Iban for the subject content, with explanations in Bahasa Melayu or English where that helps the student. Tell us your preference when you enquire.

If spoken Iban is easy but the written answer loses marks, a teacher who reads your sentences can show where. Tell us the form and what feels hardest, and we will confirm the teacher arrangement before you book. Parents usually arrange the trial.
