Our online one-to-one SPM Aural dan Teori Muzik tuition gives each student an experienced teacher assigned to them, with lessons that connect what the student hears to what is written. The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50, and more than 9,000 students have been helped through our service.

Who Aural dan Teori tuition helps most

Students struggle in this subject in three separate places, and the lesson differs for each.

  • Note values and bar counting. The rhythm is right by ear, but the bar on paper does not add up.
  • Pitch direction and size. The student hears “up” but cannot say whether it is a step or a leap.
  • Describing music in words. The answer says “it sounds nice” when the question wants a feature named and located.

A teacher can test each skill in a minute and begin where the student stops. The lesson on connecting an original listening example with rhythm and pitch notation works through the first two.

What a lesson looks like: one bar, heard then written

Here is a worked example in 4/4 time, where each bar holds four crotchet beats.

The teacher taps a pattern: one clap, two quick claps, then one long held sound. The student says what they heard.

  1. Listen: the pattern is long, short-short, then longer. One beat, two half-beats, then a held note.
  2. Assign values: a crotchet is 1 beat, two quavers are 0.5 + 0.5 = 1 beat, and the held note must be whatever fills the bar.
  3. Check the total: 1 + 1 + ? = 4, so the held note lasts 2 beats, a minim.

The bar is crotchet, quaver, quaver, minim: 1 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 2 = 4 beats. Checking the arithmetic is the habit that stops a correct ear producing an incorrect bar.

The same method applies to pitch. The teacher plays three notes, the student says they rise by step, step, then leap, and only then finds the notes on the stave. The lesson on explaining a musical pattern using notation and a listening observation extends this into written answers.

What one-to-one lessons can and cannot do

Lessons can train listening tasks, explain theory and give immediate feedback on written notation. The teacher plays examples live, so the student can ask for a repeat at once.

Audio over a call depends on the student’s device and connection, so lessons suit short, clear examples. Assessed listening and any school practical stay with the school.

How starting works

In your WhatsApp message, give your form and the concept that trips you up, such as note values, pitch direction or describing music in words. We arrange a one-hour trial class (from RM50) with an experienced teacher, and the fee is agreed before it starts.

Common questions

Can aural training work over an online call?

Yes, for short listening tasks. The teacher plays or sings examples and the student answers aloud or writes. Sound quality varies by device, so headphones help, and the school sets how assessed listening is carried out.

I can play an instrument but struggle with theory. Will lessons help?

Yes. Playing by ear and reading notation are connected, and lessons bridge them by asking the student to write what they hear and play what they write.

Do I need to read music already?

Basic reading helps, but the teacher starts from what the student can already do. A student who is unsure of note values begins there, before moving on to harder patterns.

How much does it cost?

The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50, and the rate depends on the teacher. The fee is agreed before the trial, and you book only if you are happy with it. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours a class.

If listening and notation feel like two separate skills, a one-to-one lesson can practise moving between them a bar at a time. Tell us the form and the concept that trips you up. Parents usually arrange the trial.
