Our online one-to-one SPM Alat Muzik Utama tuition gives you an experienced teacher who helps you practise with purpose and explains what to fix. The first class is a one-hour trial class (from RM50).

Who this tuition helps

Principal Instrument students usually put in the hours already. The trouble lies in how those hours are spent.

  • Playing from the top every time. The easy bars get twenty repetitions and the hard bars get three.
  • Not hearing the fault. The student knows it sounds wrong but cannot name whether it is timing, fingering or breath.
  • Practising alone without a plan. Progress stalls because nothing tells the student what to change next.

A teacher watching you play a passage can name the fault in a few attempts and give you one thing to try.

What a lesson looks like: rebuilding a practice sequence

Consider this example.

An eight-bar passage. Bars 5 and 6 contain a position shift and the student speeds up every time they arrive there.

The teacher does not ask for more repetitions. They build a sequence.

  1. Play bars 5 to 6 only, at a slow tempo such as 60 beats per minute.
  2. Say the shift aloud before playing: “arrive, then count”.
  3. Play bars 4 to 7, so the shift sits in the middle of familiar music.
  4. Raise the tempo by a small step, only after three clean repeats.
  5. Record one take and compare it with the first.

The fault was not the shift itself but the rush into it. By isolating and slowing the two bars, the student hears the rush for the first time. Explore this pattern in organising a focused practice sequence from a short passage.

What online lessons can and cannot do

Video suits practice design, technique observation, reading and counting, listening to your own recordings and preparing how you will approach a performance.

Delay on the connection rules out playing in time with the teacher. Microphone compression also flattens tone, so judgements about fine sound quality are limited. Assessed performance, accompaniment and any instrument access stay with your school. Teachers do not promise grades, and they cannot supply an instrument.

Practical points before the trial

Bring a short passage, not a whole piece. Have a pencil for marking the score, and a device on a stable connection, ideally plugged in.

How starting works

In your WhatsApp message, give your instrument, your form and the piece you are preparing. We assign an experienced teacher and agree the fee with you before the one-hour trial class (from RM50). After the trial you decide whether the teacher is a good fit, and you can ask for another teacher if not.

The trial lesson agenda builder helps you plan the first class, and how our online tuition works covers the rest.

Common questions

Can I learn my instrument properly over an online lesson?

You can get focused feedback on posture, fingering, rhythm and practice method. Sound quality and fine tone are harder to judge through a microphone, so the teacher leans on what you describe and what can be heard clearly.

Do I need a particular instrument or setup?

You need the instrument you study at school, a stable device and a view the teacher can see. Internet delay means playing together with the teacher is not practical, so you play, then discuss.

Will tuition replace my school's practical assessment?

No. Assessed performance stays in your school setting. Lessons help you prepare by planning practice, analysing difficult passages and reviewing your own recordings.

What is the cost after the trial?

The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50. The rate depends on the teacher and is the same hourly rate as that teacher's normal classes, and the fee is agreed before the trial. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours per class.

Which language are lessons taught in?

Lessons are in English or BM, depending on the subject, and the teacher explains clearly in whichever suits the student. Musical terms stay as your course uses them.

If practice time is not turning into progress, a one-to-one lesson can redesign how you practise a passage. Tell us your instrument, your form and the piece you are preparing. Parents usually arrange the trial.
