This exam cycle
Last checked: 4 October 2026.
- Next SPM (2027): the timetable has not been announced. KPM tends to publish it in a media statement during the exam year; the most recent example is the corrected SPM 2026 schedule dated 18 August 2026 1. Expect the next statement around August.
- Latest schedule for comparison (SPM 2026): oral and speaking tests start in late October, science practicals follow in mid-November, and the written papers run from late November to mid-December 1.
- SPM 2026 results: they come in 2027, on a date not yet announced. The most recent confirmed release was SPM 2025 on 31 March 2026 2, while SPM 2023 results came on 27 May 2024 3, which shows the date varies.
Until KPM publishes, any exact date for the next SPM in a group chat or on a poster is a guess. Check lp.moe.gov.my and moe.gov.my for the real announcement.
What does the yearly SPM calendar look like?
| Stage | When in the year | Who sets it |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Early in the exam year | Lembaga Peperiksaan notice, then your school or education department |
| School trial exams | Before the national exam | Your school or education department |
| Oral and speaking tests | Weeks before the written papers | Lembaga Peperiksaan |
| Science practical tests | Between speaking tests and written papers | Lembaga Peperiksaan |
| Written papers and listening tests | Towards the end of the year | Lembaga Peperiksaan |
| Results | In the year after the exam | Ministry of Education |
The order is steady, but the dates move, so treat this as a map and not a diary.
How is the timetable announced?
KPM normally publishes the SPM schedule in a media statement during the exam year, with the full timetable on the Lembaga Peperiksaan portal 1. In recent cycles the pattern has been oral and speaking tests first, science practicals next, and the written papers last, with only weeks between them. Do not copy dates from one year onto the next.
When do registration and trial exams happen?
Registration for SPM is announced by Lembaga Peperiksaan early in the exam year, and school candidates are registered through their school. Private candidates should read private candidates and official registration information.
Trial exams belong to schools, and each school sets its own dates. See school trial exams versus the national SPM exam for how to use them.
When are the results released?
The ministry decides each year. In recent cycles the release has fallen in different months 2 3, which is why last year’s date is a poor guide. The results day guide covers how to check, review or resit.
How should a Form 4 student plan for next year’s SPM?
You do not need the official timetable to start. If your child or you are in Form 4 now, next year’s SPM is the target, and you can:
- Use the rest of Form 4 to find the weakest one or two subjects while there is still a full year to fix them.
- Plan on the written papers falling near the end of next year, with oral and practical tests a few weeks earlier, and adjust once KPM publishes the real dates.
- Ask the school when its Form 5 trial exams are likely to be held, since each school sets its own.
- Build the plan with the SPM timetable and personal study calendar page, and fill in the real dates when they are announced.
How do I turn the dates into my own calendar once they are out?
- Write down the dates from the current LP timetable.
- Add your school’s trial exam dates and oral test slot.
- Count weeks backwards from the first written paper.
If the weeks look tight in a subject, ask about online one-to-one tuition early, since a plan made six weeks out has more room than one made six days out.
