Practice and revision practice

Mixed Arabic revision practice with answers

You want one set that shows which Arabic skill to revise first.

This set mixes five skill areas in eight original questions. Try each one before you open the answer, then use the final section to plan your revision.

It belongs to the SPM Arabic guide. A teacher can go through your results in the one-hour trial class (from RM50), a taught lesson on the Arabic you choose.

Questions

Question 1. Nominal or verbal? المطرُ يسقطُ في الشتاءِ. (The rain falls in winter.)

Answer

Nominal. The first word المطر is a noun. The verb يسقط is inside the predicate.

Question 2. Correct the agreement: الطالباتُ نشيطٌ.

Answer

الطالباتُ نشيطاتٌ. The subject is a feminine plural of people, so the predicate takes the feminine plural ending.

Question 3. In جاءَ عليٌّ يركضُ, which word is the main verb, and what does يركض do?

Answer

The main verb is جاء (came). The word يركض (running) describes Ali’s state while he came.

Question 4. Read: ذهبتْ ليلى إلى السوقِ واشترتْ تفاحًا. أكلتْهُ في البيتِ. What does ـه refer to?

Answer

It refers to تفاحًا (apples). Leila is the doer of أكلت, and the thing eaten is the apples. Note that ـه is masculine, matching the word تفاح.

Question 5. Choose the relevant answer to كم أخًا لكَ؟ (How many brothers do you have?): لي أخٌ واحدٌ / أسكنُ في المدينةِ.

Answer

لي أخٌ واحدٌ (I have one brother). The question word كم asks for a number.

Question 6. Infer the meaning of جائعٌ: كان سعدٌ جائعًا، فأكلَ ثلاثةَ أرغفةٍ. (Saad was ___, so he ate three loaves.)

Answer

Hungry. He ate three loaves as a result, which shows that he needed food.

Question 7. Expand البابُ مفتوحٌ (the door is open) with an adjective meaning “big”, keeping the predicate.

Answer

البابُ الكبيرُ مفتوحٌ (the big door is open). The adjective الكبير takes ال to match البابُ.

Question 8. Give a two-sentence spoken answer to لماذا تحبُّ المدرسةَ؟ (Why do you like school?)

Answer

A sample answer: أحبها كثيرًا. (I like it very much.) أحبها لأنَّ أصدقائي هناك. (I like it because my friends are there.) Check that there is a direct answer and one reason with لأنَّ.

If you got these wrong

If questions 1, 2 or 7 caused trouble, go to the nominal sentence practice. For question 3, read distinguishing a verb form from its sentence role.

For questions 4 and 6, use the reading practice. For question 5, read comparing a relevant and an irrelevant answer. For question 8, try the listening and spoken practice.

Common questions

How should I use this set?

Attempt it once without notes, mark it, and write each error in your misconception log. Then use the last section to decide which lessons to study. Retest after three days.

Can I repeat the set?

Yes. A repeat after a few days shows whether the repairs worked. Change the wording of your answers rather than memorising them, and focus on the rule behind each answer.

What if I finish quickly?

Write a new question of your own for each of the skill areas. Making questions forces you to check the rules, and you can use your own questions for your next revision session.

If this set shows several weak areas at once, a one-to-one Arabic teacher can help you choose the first one to repair and work through it with your own mistakes.
