These eight original questions get harder as you go. Write your own answer first, then check the explained answer. The section overview is at structured and extended answers.
Questions
1. State one value shown when a student returns a lost wallet.
Answer
Honesty. A state question needs only the value, with no explanation.
2. Explain why Raj should apologise after breaking a classmate’s ruler.
Answer
Raj should apologise because responsibility means owning a mistake, and the classmate may feel upset about losing something useful. He can also offer to replace it.
3. Suggest what Siew Ling should do when she sees a younger student being teased in the corridor.
Answer
She should tell the teasing students to stop if it is safe, or call a teacher, because consideration means helping someone who is being hurt. The younger student may feel less alone, and the teasing may stop sooner.
4. Identify the command word and the shape of the answer: “Discuss two ways Hafiz can respond to a friend who asks to copy his homework.”
Answer
The command word is discuss, so the answer needs two responses with a judgment. For example: he can refuse, which protects honesty but may upset the friend; or he can offer to explain the method, which helps the friend learn without copying. The second is better because it supports the friend without dishonesty.
5. Rewrite this repeated answer with three distinct ideas.
Kumar should return the book because returning books is right. Returning the book is the honest thing to do. It would be wrong to keep it.
Answer
“Kumar should return the book because honesty means giving back what he borrowed. The owner may need it for revision and could lose marks without it. If Kumar returns it on time, the owner will lend to him again, so the friendship stays strong.”
Distinct ideas: honesty, the owner’s need and future trust.
6. Evaluate this decision: Aiza keeps quiet after seeing a classmate copy in a test because she does not want trouble.
Answer
Aiza’s decision is understandable but weak. Staying silent avoids conflict, but it allows unfairness to the students who studied. A stronger choice would be to tell the teacher quietly, because honesty and fairness matter more than avoiding discomfort.
The cheating student may also learn more from being corrected early.
7. Write a four-part answer: Mei’s parents ask her to cut down on phone use before the exam. She says she needs it to revise.
Answer
“Mei should agree a clear plan with her parents, such as using the phone only for revision apps for one hour, because respect means listening to her parents’ concern. If she drifts into other apps, her revision time shrinks. With a plan, her parents will trust her more and she will keep her focus.”
Value: respect. Reason: parents’ concern. Action: agree a plan. Consequence: trust and focus.
8. Discuss two consequences for the class if a group keeps spreading a rumour about a teacher.
Answer
First, the teacher may feel hurt and lose confidence in the class. Second, classmates may believe something false and treat the teacher with less respect. Both harm the learning environment, so the class should stop spreading the rumour and check facts with an adult.
If you got these wrong

- Missing parts: read developing a value, reason, action and consequence response.
- Repeated sentences: read avoiding repeated points.
- Unsure of your level: read self-reviewing against a verified task rubric.
