Online one-to-one SPM Invention tuition

Your child has a good invention idea but cannot explain how it was developed.

Our online one-to-one SPM Reka Cipta tuition helps students critique a design idea and explain a justified development process. The first class is a one-hour trial class from RM50, with the fee agreed before it starts.

Who Invention tuition helps most

Three situations come up again and again.

  • A solution looking for a problem. The student loves the gadget but cannot state who needs it.
  • Choices without criteria. The final concept was picked by feeling, so the written reasons sound like guesses.
  • Claims bigger than the evidence. A single test of a prototype is written up as proof that it works.

A one-to-one teacher can question the idea the way an assessor might, so the student practises giving reasons out loud first.

What a lesson looks like: comparing two concepts

Picture this example. A student wants to help people find a dropped phone in a dark bedroom. Concept A is a glow-in-the-dark phone sleeve. Concept B is a bedside tray that lights up when a phone is placed on it.

The teacher asks the student to choose criteria and weight them by importance: cost (weight 3), safety (2) and ease of use (1). Each concept gets a score from 1 to 5.

Criterion Weight A score B score
Cost 3 4 3
Safety 2 3 5
Ease of use 1 5 3

Concept A scores 4×3 + 3×2 + 5×1 = 12 + 6 + 5 = 23. Concept B scores 3×3 + 5×2 + 3×1 = 9 + 10 + 3 = 22.

A narrow gap like that deserves a comment. The student writes that A leads by one point, that safety would favour B if its weight rose, and that the choice depends on the weights. The free lesson on comparing original concepts using explicit criteria covers the method.

What can be taught online, and what stays with school?

Defining a need, comparing options, explaining a prototype observation without overclaiming and reflecting on a decision can all be taught in an online lesson. Lessons can also practise questions an assessor might ask.

Building the prototype, any school-assessed project work and the marks for it stay with the student and the school. A teacher cannot do any of it for the student, and no one can promise a grade.

How starting works

  1. Message us on WhatsApp with the form and the stage your invention has reached.
  2. We assign an experienced Invention teacher and arrange the one-hour trial class (from RM50).
  3. After the trial, you decide whether the teacher is a good fit, and can ask for another teacher if not.

Common questions

Will the teacher invent something for my project?

No. The teacher asks questions, critiques and helps the student justify choices. The idea, the prototype and the record of development remain the student's own.

What if my idea is still unclear?

That is a good time for a lesson. The teacher helps the student state the need first, because a clearly defined need makes every later choice easier to justify.

How much does Invention tuition cost?

The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50, charged at the same hourly rate as that teacher's normal classes. The rate depends on the teacher, and the fee is agreed before the trial. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours per class, and the schedule is agreed with the teacher.

Can lessons fit around school and other activities?

Lesson times for Invention are agreed between the parent and the teacher. Since lessons are online, the student joins from home at a time that suits both sides.

Is this suitable if my child is struggling, not aiming for the top?

Yes. The teacher begins with what the student can already do in Invention, then adds one skill at a time. The first target is a one-sentence statement of the need the invention solves.

If the idea is strong but the reasons for each choice are thin, a teacher can critique and question it with you. Tell us the form and what feels hardest. Parents usually arrange the trial.
