Your child's product sketch looks fine, but the reason behind each feature is missing from the write-up.

Our online one-to-one SPM Reka Bentuk Industri tuition gives your child an experienced teacher who helps connect a user need to a sketch and defend the design in words. Start with the one-hour trial class (from RM50).

Who this tuition helps

Industrial Design marks are lost between the idea and the explanation. These are the usual places.

  • Vague users. “For everyone” is not a user, so the features have nothing to be tested against.
  • Features without reasons. The handle is curved because it looks good, not because a hand needs it.
  • No alternatives. Only one concept is drawn, so there is nothing to compare or justify.

A teacher working one-to-one can ask “why that?” about every line of your sketch until the answer is a sentence you could write in an exam.

What a lesson looks like: from a need to a justified sketch

This is a worked example.

Observation: a Form 2 student carries a water bottle and a file in one hand while opening a locker with the other. The bottle slips.

The teacher asks the student to state the need in one line: a way to carry a bottle securely with one hand occupied. Then the two sketches are compared against that line.

Sketch Feature Answers the need?
A: loop strap Hooks over a finger Yes, hands stay free
B: stickers on the bottle Decoration No, bottle still slips

The student keeps A and records a reason: “The loop lets the bottle hang from one finger, so the other fingers can hold the file.” Next the teacher asks for one risk, for example that a thin strap may cut into a finger, and the student adds a wider strap to the sketch.

Notice the order: need, feature, reason, risk. Repeating that order on your own project is the real skill. You can read more in linking an observed user need to a product sketch.

What online lessons can and cannot do

Online lessons suit user analysis, sketch review, comparing alternatives against criteria and planning your written justification.

Workshop use, material testing, model building and any work assessed under school supervision stay at school. Teachers cannot make the prototype for you or guarantee a result.

How starting works

In your WhatsApp message, give your form and the product idea or brief you have. We assign an experienced teacher and agree the fee with you before the one-hour trial class (from RM50). After the trial you decide whether the teacher is a good fit, and you can ask for another teacher if not.

The trial lesson agenda builder helps you choose what to bring to the first class. If you are comparing formats, one-to-one versus group tuition sets out the trade-offs.

Common questions

What can a teacher do online for an Industrial Design student?

The teacher reviews your user need, your sketches and your written justification. You describe your drawings, and together you test whether each feature answers a real need.

Can the teacher help me build my model or prototype?

Model-making and any assessed physical work happen at school with your school's materials and supervision. Online lessons cover planning, alternatives and how to explain your choices.

My sketching is weak. Is this subject still for me?

A clear sketch matters less than a clear reason. The teacher works on simple annotated sketches and on the reasoning, so you improve both without pretending to be a professional illustrator.

What does tuition cost?

The first class is a one-hour trial from RM50. The rate depends on the teacher and is the same hourly rate as that teacher's normal classes, and the fee is agreed before the trial. Lessons are usually about 1.5 hours per class.

Which language are lessons taught in, English or BM?

Lessons are in English or BM, depending on the subject, and the teacher explains clearly in whichever suits the student. Written work stays in the language your course requires.

If your child can draw the product but struggles to say who it is for and why each part exists, a one-to-one lesson works on that. Tell us the form and the product idea. Parents usually arrange the trial.
