To know what to learn, use your current textbook and the official syllabus documents. To learn the text well, use the Arabic script and a qualified teacher. Transliteration is only a memory aid.
This lesson closes the Al-Quran learning support cluster. It does not replace checking details with your teacher.
How do I check which passages are prescribed?
The list depends on your cohort, so check it directly.
- Open your current KSSM textbook and find the list of required passages.
- Compare it with the syllabus documents on the Bahagian Pembangunan Kurikulum site, bpk.moe.gov.my.
- Check the assessment details on the Lembaga Peperiksaan site, lp.moe.gov.my.
- Confirm your final list with your Pendidikan Islam teacher.
Write the confirmed list on one page with the source beside each item. Update it if your teacher announces a change.
What can transliteration do?
Transliteration writes Arabic sounds in Latin letters. It can show the order of words and help you notice where a line breaks.
It is limited because Latin letters do not carry every Arabic sound or every rule of recitation. Two different sounds may look the same when romanised.
Worked example: a revision list
Situation: Sofea has six prescribed passages. She copies a list from a group chat that shows seven.
Steps: she compares the list with her textbook and finds that one extra passage belongs to a different year. She asks her teacher to confirm, then writes a final list of six with the textbook page beside each.
The arithmetic check is straightforward: seven on the chat list minus one from a different year leaves six. Checking against the textbook caught the extra one.
The mistake to avoid
The common slip is using transliteration as the main study material. The student then recalls romanised words but cannot read the script.
| Risky habit | Safer habit |
|---|---|
| Learn the romanised line only | Learn from the Arabic script with a teacher |
| Trust a chat list | Confirm against textbook and teacher |
| Guess spelling in an answer | Copy as printed or give the meaning |
Use transliteration at most as a reminder beside the script, never in its place.
What this page does not do
This page does not teach pronunciation or recitation rules. Those are learnt by listening and correction from a qualified reader.
It also does not list passages. Lists belong to your textbook and official documents, which stay current.
Check yourself
Write a four-line checklist you would follow to confirm your prescribed passages this term.
Answer
Sample checklist:
- Find the passage list in my current textbook.
- Compare it with the syllabus documents on bpk.moe.gov.my.
- Check the assessment details on lp.moe.gov.my.
- Confirm the final list with my teacher and write the source beside each passage.
Your checklist can use different words provided it includes the textbook, the official documents and your teacher.
