A rumusan has to cover the task and stay within the stated limit. Check coverage first, then trim padding until the count fits, and never cut a required point to make room.
This lesson closes the rumusan cluster. It assumes you can already join points as in combining points in clear complete sentences.
What is the two-pass audit?
Pass one checks coverage. List the points the question needs, tick each one in your draft and note any missing or extra ones.
Pass two checks length. Count the words, then remove padding from the longest sentences first, so the points stay intact.
Worked example with an original draft
The question asks for the problems of a school recycling campaign, from the extract on Kelab Alam Sekitar. The required points are: tong penuh, and kutipan lambat.
Draft: “Berdasarkan petikan di atas, sebenarnya masalah yang dihadapi oleh kelab itu ialah tong kitar semula sering penuh dan juga kutipan sampah yang dilakukan adalah lambat.”
Pass one: both points are present, so coverage is complete.
Pass two: remove “Berdasarkan petikan di atas” because the question already tells the reader the source. Remove “sebenarnya”, “oleh kelab itu”, “juga” and “yang dilakukan adalah”, because none adds a point. Replace “sering penuh” with “penuh”, which is what the extract supports.
Trimmed: Masalah kempen ini ialah tong kitar semula penuh dan kutipan sampah lambat. The draft falls from twenty-five words to twelve and keeps both points.
The mistake that costs marks
The slip is to cut a point to meet the limit while keeping padding. A student deletes “kutipan sampah lambat” but leaves “berdasarkan petikan di atas”, and then the coverage is incomplete.
The repair is to follow the order: points first, padding second. Remove openers and repeated subjects before any point.
| Cut first | Keep |
|---|---|
| Opening phrases about the passage | Each required point |
| Repeated subjects and filler words | Key nouns and verbs from the focus |
| Extra examples | The cause or effect the question asked for |
Check yourself
Trim this sentence and say whether coverage is complete: “Sebenarnya, kelab itu telah berjaya menyedarkan pelajar tentang sampah dan juga mengadakan kempen kitar semula.” The question asks for the kejayaan of the club.
Answer
Trimmed: Kelab itu menyedarkan pelajar tentang sampah. The filler “sebenarnya” and the phrase “telah berjaya” are removed, because the question already asks for successes.
Coverage: the point about pelajar being made aware is a success. The second clause, holding a campaign, is an activity and not a result, so it is extra for this question, and the trimmed sentence is complete.
What to study next
Put all four skills together in the rumusan practice set. Note your repeated slips in the mistake log and paper-error review.
